These 4 ingredient Extra Skinny Margaritas by the Pitcher are guilt free margaritas with the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness! With less than 150 calories per serving, you can enjoy this low carb drink with no regrets!
One of my favorite co*cktails is a margarita! However, you can consume a huge amount of sugar, carbs and calories depending on how it’s made. With this super easy skinny margarita recipe, you’ll be sipping on a refreshing guilt free co*cktail in no time at all!
Regular Margarita vs Skinny Margarita
The classic margarita is made from tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and sometimes a sweetener such as agave or simple syrup. A skinny margarita eliminates the orange liqueur and uses a calorie free, natural sweetener to reduce the amount of sugar, carbs and calories.
Tequila
The quality of tequila matters! You can use an inexpensive tequila and still make a good margarita, but the better the quality, the tastier your co*cktail will be.
Lime Juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice tastes best! However, fresh limes do have some calories and some carbs.
The next best alternative, which is what makes this drink extra skinny, is Santa Cruz Organic Fresh Lime Juice. It comes in a bottle and according to the nutrition label, it has 0 calories and 0 carbs. By using the bottled lime juice, each margarita has just 130 calories and 0 carbs!
How to make Extra Skinny Margaritas by the Pitcher
How to salt a rim
To salt the rim, cut a notch into a lime wedge, put the notch of the lime over the rim of the glass, and rub the lime around the entire rim of the glass. Turn the glass upside down and put it onto a plate of salt, gently twisting the glass until the rim is salted.
Pro Tip: For extra flavor add some lime zest to the salt.
Mixing the drink
To a pitcher, add 12 ounces tequila, 12 ounces of freshly squeezed lime juice or bottled lime juice (it generally takes 5-7 squeezed limes depending on their size to make 12 ounces), and 1/2 tsp powdered stevia. Stir until the stevia has dissolved.
Depending on your taste, add more or less stevia. 1/2 tsp is a good place to start. I don’t like my margarita to be too sweet, so you may want to add more stevia if you enjoy a sweeter co*cktail.
Finally, add 24 ounces or 2 cans of sparking water or club soda and stir. Orange or lime flavored sparkling water are really great in this recipe or plain club soda works well too. The bubbly water is added after the stevia is dissolved to prevent the drink from becoming too foamy.
Serving
For a skinny margarita on the rocks, add ice to your glass and pour. I like to use larger ice cubes so that the drink doesn’t get diluted. Garnish with lime wedges or slices.
For a frozen drink, add 1 cup of the margarita mixture and 2 cups of ice to a blender and blend until smooth. Using crushed ice will help the process along.
How to Make Spicy Extra Skinny Margaritas by the Pitcher
To make spicy margaritas, slice a jalapeno pepper in half lengthwise and add it to the pitcher. Allow it to rest 10 minutes, then stir and serve with slices of jalapenos for garnish.
To make extra spicy margaritas, slice part way through a habanero pepper and add it to the pitcher. Allow it to rest 10 minutes, then stir and serve. The longer it rests, the spicier it becomes.
