Fruit Salad in Patriotic Colors

  • 1 Cup seeded chopped watermelon
  • 1/2 Cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 Cup blueberries
  • 1 apple diced
  • ½ Cup raspberries or pitted cherries
  • 3 Tablespoons lime juice
  • 4 teaspoons honey

Toss diced apples, strawberries and blueberries into a mixture ofhoney, lime juice and fresh, chopped mint. Serve as a side dish withany entrée or use as a topping over vanilla ice cream.

Easy Tomato Salad

A simple kids 4th of July recipes that they can put togetherthemselves.

  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Real soft mozzarella cheese, cut in cubes
  • Bunch of fresh parsley, chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

In serving bowl toss cherry tomatoes, parsley and mozzarella cubes.Sprinkle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

Patriotic Pretzel Sticks

  • Long fat Pretzel sticks
  • White chocolate candy melts
  • blue candy melts
  • red candy melts
  • Patriotic sprinkles or red or blue sprinkles

Melt white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave andstir every 30 seconds until completely melted. Dip ends of pretzelsticks about halfway or 3/4 up the stick. Set on a sheet of waxedpaper and let set. Melt blue candy melts and dip ends of white end.Add sprinkle stars or other candy sprinkles while chocolate is stillwet. Melt red candy melts and drizzle on the bottom white part ofthe pretzel for stripes. Place on waxed paper and allow to set.

Red, White and Blue Yogurt Parfait

  • vanilla or strawberry or blueberry yogurt
  • raspberries or sliced strawberries
  • Cool whip
  • Granola or Cornflakecereal with dried Blueberries

In a glass bowl layer parfait in order starting with yogurt, granolaand then berries. Add another layer of each. More parfaitideas.

Chunky Salsa

A perfect 4th of July recipes for kids to put together and snack onwhile the barbecue is cooking.Kids 4th of July recipes. (7)

  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1/2 cup onions chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup green peppers chopped fine
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • Salt to taste

Have an adult help with chopping vegetables. Stir ingredientstogether and place in serving bowl. Arrange chips along side salsa.

  • Butter or cream cheese

Create a snack platter shaped like a flag. There are a lot of ideasfor red and white stripes. We have raspberries, strawberries,watermelon and pepperoni. Pigs in a Blanket Fireworks

Wrap crescent roll dough around a hot dog. Bake until golden brown.Cut cubes of cheese into small stars with a mini cookie cutter. Pushstars into toothpicks. Attach to your "fireworks" hot dogs.

Fruity Patriotic Drink

  • Fresh pineapple slices Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Lemonade, homemade or store bought

Directions:
Cut pineapple slices with mini star shaped cookie cutters.
Cut strawberries in slices.
Add pineapple stars, blueberries and strawberries to a pitcher orglass of lemonade.

Frosted Fireworks Drink

Using red and blue flavored beverages, such as Kool-aid or Gatorade,pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Place some red, blue and clearcubes in a festive dessert glass and pour seltzer (flavored if youprefer) over the colored ice cubes. Toss in a little flag for addedfestiveness.

    Make normal Kraft macaroni and cheese. Before you add the cheesemix put blue/red food coloring on the noodles. Then add thecheese. If it looks green (for the blue) Add more blue. Keepadding color until it looks blue. Have a glass of white milk todrink. Then have strawberries or anything red for a side dish.This makes a wonderful lunch.

  • Red, White and Blue Potato Salad - Use new redpotatoes, white baby potatoes and blue or purple potatoes inyour favorite potato salad recipe. (Leave the skins on the redand blue potatoes.)

  • White Pizza Bagel Bites - Using 1 pkg. frozen bagelbites, place on cookie sheet, cut side up. Sprinkle with garlicpowder and bake until lightly toasted. Top with shreddedmozzarella cheese, sliced olives and chopped green pepper. Bakefor 5 more minutes, until cheese is melted.

  • White Pineapple Salad - Drain 1 large can pineappleand reserve juice; add enough water to the juice to make 2 cups.Heat to a boil and add Jello, mix until dissolved. Chill untilthick as syrup. Mash 2-8 oz. pkgs. cream cheese and add to Jellomixture. Mix well with mixer. Add ½ pt. whipped cream and 1 cupcrushed nuts, mix well. Pour into a 9x 12 dish and chill well.

Pinwheel Cookies

Using a sugar cookie recipe, divide dough into three. Color 1/3 ofdough red and 1/3 blue leaving last part as is. Roll red dough outinto a rectangle and then roll white into a rectangle. Place whiterectangle on top of red. Then roll out blue and place on top ofother two. Roll triple layer of dough jelly roll style. Cut intoslices. Roll slices in sprinkles. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until cookies are set.

American Patriotic Trifle

Layer white pieces of angel food cake or pound cake with whip cream,raspberries and blueberries to make a trifle.

Sandwich Sprinkle Cookies

Create a favorite cookie recipe. Allow to cool. Sandwich whitefrosting between two cookies. Roll edges in red and blue sprinkles.

4th of July Cupcake Ideas

  • Clean and empty soup can with no lip
  • Cake mix
  • White, red and blue frosting
  • Sprinkles, optional

Choose a can that doesn't have a lip extending over the opening ofthe can. This will make it hard to get your cake out in one smoothpiece.
Clean out empty soup cans and grease well with shortening and flour.Prepare cake mix and pour into cans about 2/3 full. Bake untiltoothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool. With a knifeloosen cake from edges of can and cake should slide out. Decoratesides and top of cake as desired.

  • Cupcakes
  • White Frosting
  • Red licorice strings

Prepare cupcakes and allow to cool. Frost with white frosting. Cutred licorice into 2-3 inch pieces. Unravel strings of licorice partway down. Poke through top of cupcake. Decorate with sprinkles ifdesired.

Red, White and Blue Cupcakes

1. Make your favorite flavor cupcakes
2. Divide white frosting into thirds. Color 1/3 with red foodcoloring and 1/3 with blue food coloring.
3. Frost each cupcake, alternating colors.
4. You can make little flags on each cupcake using the red, whiteand blue frosting.
5. Decorate 4th of July cupcakeswith star picks, flag toothpicks or other cake toppers.

Flag Cake Ideas

Berry Flag Cake

  • White cake
  • White frosting
  • Blueberries or Blue M&M's
  • Strawberries or raspberries

Bake a white cake in a 13x9 pan according to directions. Allow tocool and with a toothpick score lines across cake and a square inthe top left corner just as you would see on an American flag. Inthe top left corner place rows of blueberries. Align strawberries onthe top row.
Place white frosting in a ziploc bag and cut the corner off. (or usea pastry bag) Squeeze white frosting after the strawberry row. Fillcake rows alternating rows of strawberries and rows of whitefrosting to resemble the red and white stripes on an American flag.

*Alternately you can frost the cake with cool whip and place berrieson top of the whip cream, as the picture.

Frosted Layered Flag Cake

Frost a a layered sheet cake with colored frosting to resemble theflag. Using berry filling for your cake makes a nice red color tothe inside. Learn how to fill acake.

Colored 4th of July Cakes- Red White and Blue Cake

Divide your cake batter into three bowls. Add red, white and bluecoloring, one color per bowl. Mix together. In a greased pan, swirldrops of colored batter. Bake.

4th of July Fun and Games


We've created a challenge for the 4th of July for kids. This is justa simple way to do something fun with your kids each day for a totalof 15 days.

When does this challenge start? Well, you can start it now, you canwait and start it exactly 15 days before the 4th of July or you canstart it before one of the other patriotic holidays (Memorial Day,Flag Day, Inauguration Day, Labor Day and so on). And maybe your 4thof July for kids is already packed to the brim with activities andyou want to start this challenge after it passes by. Pretty muchstart this challenge whenever you want and do it for 15 consecutivedays.

Benefits of This Challenge

  1. Educational - your children are actually going to learnsomething!
  2. Fun - the children will be crafting, baking and decorating andyou can all do this together.
  3. The Activities are Short in Duration - nothing is going torequire too much time out of your day. Once an activity is doneor once you have shown your children how to put together acertain craft, you can probably steal some time for yourself andlet your kids be on their own and if they have any questionsthey can of course go to you for advice or directions.
  4. Creates a Family Bond or Close Friendships - getting your kidsall together to work on a project, read a book, or cook in thekitchen makes for fun memories. Or, you can invite some of yourchildren's friends to occasionally join in some of the challengeactivities and strengthen friendship bonds through theactivities.
  5. A Challenge Teaches Children how to Persevere and Finish aProject - it is so important for children to learn perseveranceand this 4th of July for kids challenge is actually a fun way tolearn this quality!
