Yellow exclamation marks mean for Events

The longer you play, the more events will grace the Need for Speed: Heat map. Some of these will be marked with yellow exclamation marks, but what that means isn't immediately apparent. We explain the markings and how they bring you additional profit.
What do yellow exclamation marks mean in NfS: Heat?

As you progress through the story of NfS: Heat, more events will be unlocked across the Palm City map. New races are marked with the corresponding note "NEW". You can recognize completed events by the white tick in a black circle next to the symbols. But you've probably also noticed yellow exclamation marks that appear from time to time at random events when you call up the map. What exactly does that mean?

Yellow exclamation marks can be pretty useful. If you increase the performance of one of your cars with enough performance tuning, you unlock new stages for events that have already been unlocked .

For example, the Scorpion circuit race in Downtown Palm City has a recommended level of 220. Driving a vehicle that is many times that level will unlock a higher level, which recommends a performance rating of 260. When this happens, the icon on the map will have a yellow exclamation mark.

If you select the event on the map, you can change the level and thus the level of difficulty with the directional pad (left and right). Alternatively, you can drive to the race location and conveniently switch the stage there before the start in the same way.

So don't ignore yellow exclamation marks if you want to earn money or REP. Incidentally, the same applies at night. Not only the level, but also the rewards in the form of money and REP will be increased. New events will not allow you to change tiers. You must first complete them on the given difficulty.

When buying a vehicle, you should pay attention to the base performance rating. This also causes yellow exclamation marks.

Sell car and make space in garage

With an ever-expanding fleet of vehicles, at some point you'll need to sell your car to make room in the garage or to raise money for a new purchase. Since this option is somewhat hidden in Need for Speed: Heat, we are providing you with a step-by-step guide to it here.

How can you sell your car in NfS: Heat?

If you want to sell your car, you have to return to the garage. The car dealership south of your main hideout is an erroneously chosen target for this endeavor by many. I too initially looked for an option there, but was disappointed. Drive to the garage or use the fast travel function via the map. How to sell your car:

  • Go to the Presentation tab in the Garage with L1 (PS4) or LB (Xbox One).
  • Then press square or X for "Select my garage" - you can also find this option in the bar below.
  • In the last step, select a car with the directional pad and press X or A. A submenu will open where you can now click on "Sell car" (see image above).

Unfortunately, you only get a fraction of the money you put into your jewelry. So think carefully about whether you want to sell the car and hand over all the tuning parts . You have to swap vehicles if the car you want doesn't appear in the back of the garage. You can change your active vehicle via "My Cars" - you can therefore sell all the others.

Also good to know: You cannot sell your starting car. If you follow the step-by-step instructions above, you will be greeted with a lock and the message "Unavailable". The first car is always something special.

Split screen, multiplayer or forced online

What used to be a feature of racing games was a split-screen mode or offline multiplayer. Unfortunately, that has changed in many cases today. Some of you are even wondering if there is a forced online game in NfS: Heat. We provide you with all the important information.

Crossplay between PC, PS4 and Xbox One
The last update of June 9, 2020 heralds the end of all updates. Since then, when you start the game you can choose whether you want to activate crossplay or not - you can change this later in the settings. In online mode you now play together with owners of all consoles and the PC.

If you want to enter a lobby with a player who is on another platform, you must create a party and invite each other. Thanks to crossplay, all races can race together or make the streets unsafe in free roam.

No online compulsion in NfS: Heat!
Let 's start with good news: The online compulsion of past "Need for Speed" offshoots is history. When you start the racing game, you can decide whether you want to play online or solo. If you choose offline mode, you can pause the game at any time without your car crashing into the nearest wall. You can start and play NfS: Heat even without an internet connection. All you have to do then is do without the latest updates and expect potential bugs.

So, to clear up the rumors and take away your worries: The arcade racer can not only be played online and has no online compulsion. You can also use the crew functions and all their advantages in offline mode.

How does multiplayer work
You can only try out the multiplayer of NfS: Heat if you select "Play online" after the game has started, or only then will all multiplayer components be active. For example, you can...

  • create a party: You can invite friends to your party and cruise through Palm City with them.
  • Search players by their ID : You can search complete strangers by their ID, view their profile or invite them to a party as well.
  • Challenge other players: You can challenge all players who are currently in your lobby or in your party. Go to any event and start it. You will be given the options to play solo, challenge party, or challenge all . As a reward for the additional challenge, you will get about 40% more money or REP. Players can join your event within 60 seconds. If they don't, you start alone.

Online other players drive around in your world. You can invite them to your party, befriend them, or even report them if they break the code of the street. If another player's avatar is over an event, they are currently active in it.

In the upper right corner of the screen you will occasionally receive requests for a challenge from other racers. If you accept this, you join a selected event and compete in races. You have to complete races that continue the story on your own.

At night it can happen that you're happily doing laps in an event while another player suddenly races across the course and drags a few cops behind them. This poses dangers for you, but can also be very useful in other situations.

Is there split screen or offline multiplayer?
You want to play NfS: Heat in pairs and sit comfortably together on the couch, just like in the good old days? Then we have to disappoint you at this point. You cannot play with two people in split screen. There is no offline multiplayer either.

Unfortunately, EA is continuing this trend. We would have wished for a classic split-screen mode, especially in a racing game. Who knows, maybe the PS5 or the Xbox Scarlett will be powerful enough to make couch co-op in games possible again.

Tuning: all options for looks and performance

Car lovers enjoy extensive tuning options in Need for Speed: Heat. Here we show you the tuning for the look and performance of your favorite vehicles.

Optic tuning in Need for Speed: Heat
If cars are your absolute passion, the tuning options will make your eyes wet. After all, you can even customize the exhaust sound. While some are now shaking their heads and rolling their eyes, others can't wait to get started.

Tuning in NfS: Heat takes place in your garage. Either you choose them directly on the map or you drive to a hiding place. Everywhere you get to the garage, where you carry out the optics or performance tuning.

The optical tuning is divided into body, paint & foil, effects, stance and exhaust sound . Fortunately, you no longer have to unlock the tuning options. You can change all areas from the beginning. Via "My car" you select "Optics tuning" and can then adjust the following:
body

Classic tuning takes place in the "Body" category. Here you can widen your vehicle with the help of front and rear fenders, adjust the rims and tires or exchange the headlights.

  • spoiler lip
  • front bumper
  • front baffles
  • front fender
  • grill
  • Engine Hood
  • headlight
  • window
  • exterior mirrors
  • roof
  • side skirts
  • Front wheels (rims, rim size, tires, brake discs and calipers)
  • Rear wheels (rims, rim size, tires, brake discs and calipers)
  • Exhaust
  • diffuser
  • License plate (background, frame and text)
  • rear fender
  • rear bumper
  • spoiler
  • tail lights
  • sound system

Tuning en masse: You can customize almost every part of the car body.

Here you change the color of your car, create a slide or download it from your own library. You can also filter and download slides from the community here.

  • Edit foil (color and decals)
  • Library (reuse your own saved slides)
  • Community (download slides created by other players)

effects
The effects relate to visual adjustments such as nitro paint, underbody lighting in the form of neon lights or air suspension that you can install.

  • nitro paint
  • tire smoke
  • neon
  • air suspension
  • horn

stance
The tuning in the "Stance" area has no influence on the performance of your car. Here you can lower the car or adjust the camber of the wheels at the front and rear.

  • height of the car
  • Front and rear camber

exhaust sound
The tuning of the exhaust sound is completely new in NfS: Heat and gives your wheels the desired sound - simply wonderful! You can set the following controls:

  • timbre (from soft to aggressive)
  • Tone (from series to custom)
  • Overload (from subtle to rough)
  • Tube resonance (from none to metallic)

Adjusts the timbre of your exhaust sounds. Screwdriver hearts beat faster here.

You can already see how the tuning options of a vehicle turn out at the car dealer. Under the services you will find a tuning rating from 1 to 10. The higher this is, the more options you will have in terms of visual customization in the garage.

Performance tuning for more performance
You can see the performance rating of your vehicle in various places. The car symbol with the following number marks you the performance. For example, you can see them in the garage in the upper right corner of the screen. You can also find performance tuning under "My Cars" in the garage. You have the following options there:

engine

  • crankshaft
  • control unit
  • cooling
  • Exhaust
  • turbo
  • nitro system

More reputation, more performance: You unlock better performance tuning with a higher REP level.

chassis

  • Suspension (Drift, Racing, Off-Road, Street, Speedcross, Showcase, Rally and Tracks)
  • brakes
  • tires

drive

  • coupling
  • transmission
  • differential

auxiliary item
The so-called help items have to be activated manually and help you to escape from chases easier and faster. However, this has nothing to do with tuning and performance.

  • Kill switch jammer
  • Nitro refill
  • repair kit

The performance tuning ranges from Pro > Super > Elite > Ultimate. Improved versions of the categories are marked with a "+".
